Project Management Styles

Different projects require different approaches to get jobs accomplished, choosing the right style often means the most efficient and smoothest running jobs, along with happy workers.  Styles vary wildly, but how do you choose one?  Every business has a chain of command, it’s up to the owners to delegate to managers what to do, and then have the managers deploy the jobs to the workers.  Everyone answers to someone, but how it’s all put together can make a huge difference in the success of any given job.

All Business covers the three essential management styles with explanations about each one and applications.  Scrum management is quickly catching on and Methods and Tools has a great outline of what it is, how it’s applied and why it works.  Users of the RAD style are often in face paced environments and do not have lengthy amounts of time to spend on planning and analysis.

Jim Highsmith covers Scaling Agile and ways to manage large groups of people in a very well put together article.  Max Wideman put together a great article on Matching management style to project type that is worth a read too.  Finally, PMCrunch lists 4 different styles of project management, written in everyday terms that anyone can understand and apply.
